St Bernard’s Well along the Water of Leith

The capital of Scotland – a picturesque city with beautiful, historical architecture and charming cobblestone streets – draws visitors from far and wide. Unfortunately, the area around Edinburgh Castle and the main shopping area of Princes Street is somewhat marred by mass tourism, so perhaps stay outside of Edinburgh Old Town rather than in the heart of it.

I was there during the weekend and particularly enjoyed having a quick lunch at Stockbridge Market, which only opens on Sunday, then walking along the Water of Leith – a tree-lined path that follows the Edinburgh River to the charming Dean Village.

Also worth visiting are the port district of Leith, Holyrood Park and Palace, and the Scottish National Gallery where you can view the work of some of the best 20th century artists.

If you want to get out in nature, it’s just a 40-minute taxi or bus ride to the Pentland Hills Regional Park, where you can enjoy a full day of hiking and plenty of fresh air.

  1. Thanks for this! Edinburgh is one of my favourite cities … my mum was born there ☺.

    Hope you’ve been well!
